Don't Think Chinese Aren't Counterfitting Old Coins?!?
This is from BubbleShare.com. Someone from China is bragging about how MANY coins they are counterfitting. Couldn't post the pictures, they're Flash (at least, I don't know how to post them). I nearly bought a couple nearly perfect trade dollars from a vet who claimed to have found them in Afgahanistan on EBay. It got me curious and I did some digging. What I found out is that MANY fake coins are sold this way on EBay. Of course, EBay doesn't care, as long as they get their cut. Anyway, beware buying perfect old coins:

Re: Don't Think Chinese Aren't Counterfitting Old Coins?!?
Was at an auction last Sat. that had a few trade dollars at it. They were all fake. To be honest with you I have never seen a raw trade dollar that wasn't fake. The only way I would even consider buying one is if it was slabbed buy a reputable grading company. I would feel confident that 80-85% of the un-slabbed trade dollars in the U.S. right now are fake.
You would be amazed at the Chinese fakes out there. 1909-VBD pennies, 1921 Peace dollars, Morgans, California chip gold.......some of them are obvious and some of them are so good you really have a hard time telling. Weight is the big tip-off. The prices for gold and silver start running away and you can bet the fake Eagles, Krug's and Englehard bars will be coming out of the woodwork. |

Thanks for that link! WOW is all I can say!!!
To save the pics for future reference I clicked on the 'GRID' tab, then right click on an image and select 'open link in new window' (to get a full size image not a thunbnail) then right click on that and select 'save picture as' - hey it worked the first time! ... let me play with it for a while.:banghead: OK .. after 'open link in new window' then right click on _that image_ and select 'open image in new window" THEN you can right click and 'save picture as' - a lot of effort for the number of pictures but great counterfeit documentation! I discovered you don't have to go to the grid tab - you can do it from the 'photo' tab... so in summary... select an image from the photo strip at the bottom and right click on the full size image and select 'open image in new window" THEN you can right click and 'save picture as' - |
